The Finance Reporting team manages the monthly financial close process and the presentation and distribution of external and internal financial statements. The team prepares annual audited financial statements and disclosures and serves as the primary liaison between the firm and its outside corporate auditors.  The team also prepares recurring and periodic regulatory reports filed with various governmental agencies and serves as the primary liaison between the firm and regulatory examiners from the SEC and FINRA.  Reporting oversees the preparation and ongoing management of the firm’s key accounting policies and monitors rule changes and/or new filing requirements.  The team provides advisory services to Baird’s businesses and Corporate Resource Group (CRG) and has significant interaction with the other Finance teams on accounting and regulatory guidance surrounding new business initiatives and events, new products, and significant transactions.

The Corporate Accounting Senior Manager has leadership responsibility for the close team, and is responsible for supporting the financial close process, internal reporting, accounts receivable and reporting system architecture.  This role manages approximately 11 associates (directly managing 3) across these teams providing career development and growth opportunities for associates. The Senior Manager is the primary contact for the close and reporting processes and serves as a key contact to the Director of Financial Reporting and Regulation. 

As a Corporate Accounting Senior Manager:

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following major categories:

  • Team Leadership - Provides strategic direction, issues management and continuous improvement to the Revenue, Compensation & Reporting, and Non-Compensation & Consolidation Teams (collectively “the Close teams”). Ensures the Close teams have the necessary tools, technology, and resources to meet their needs and the needs of their clients.

  • Associate Career Pathing/Development - Responsible for the career pathing and development of close team managers including activities such as coaching, recruitment, retention, performance management and career guidance.

  • Close Process Owner - Leads the day-to-day close process cycle providing regular updates and communication to the two close teams ensuring the managers and staff are closely aligned. Attendance and participation in the monthly results meeting with executive leadership.

  • Internal Reporting - Ownership of the firm level reporting process, deliverables, and enhancements, including managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting as well as maintenance and quality-control of all firm level reports.

  • Baird Trust (BT) Oversight - Manages the financial statements and monthly close of Baird Trust as well as filing of the regulatory semi-annual report.

  • Firm Compensation - Works closely with Human Resources on CRG bonus pool metrics; manages the accounting over the CRG bonus allocations and deferred and special compensation arrangements.

  • Accounts Receivable - Manages the AR processes and people in accounts receivable; facilitate the rollout of accounts receivable to the firm.

  • Project Management - Ensures assigned/owned projects are moved forward and completed in an appropriate timeframe to safeguard continued team success.

  • Budgeting and Projections  - Provides data and key assumptions to the Financial Planning & Analysis team related to bonus pools and other firm-level items.

  • Audit and Regulatory - Provides assistance as needed to the Accounting and Regulatory team particularly at year-end to help support the completion of the BT, Strategas, Robert W. Baird, Baird Financial Corporation, and Baird Financial Group corporate audits and audited financial statements.

  • Cross Functional Responsibilities - Ensures that the Close teams aligns with other Finance department teams as well as other business units to apply and maintain appropriate GAAP accounting while still providing the best service to our clients.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business (Finance or Accounting preferred) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • CPA license is required.
  • Strong understanding of financial performance including key metrics of operating businesses.
  • Ability to delegate and focus efforts on key priorities during times of extreme pressure while inspiring confidence and creating trust with internal clients and Baird associates.
  • Series 7 license required or ability to earn license within 90 days of employment.
  • Previous experience directly managing others required.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Team player with ability to work well with various styles.
  • Driven and determined with strong self-initiative, desire for continuous learning. Desire and ability to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Ability to effectively lead, develop and influence talent.
  • Superior client service focus including both delivering on and anticipating requests.
