We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join the Debt Advisory Group (DA) within Global Investment Banking (GIB). The DA group acts as a debt capital markets team for our clients on capital raises to support buysides, refinancings, or recapitalizations.  Additionally, the DA team provides support for our sellside processes through lenders who will support the credit. This person will play an integral role in providing analytical and deal support between GIB industry and DA bankers on the financings we execute for our clients. 

As a Debt Advisory Specialist, you will:

  • Work closely with transaction execution teams throughout the pitch and engaged deal process to provide information and insights on lenders that have been recommended for DA engagements, initiate contact with lenders for project launch, track deal milestones involving lending relationships and provide lender behavior analysis
  • Prepare debt comparables, analyze relevant debt issuances, develop deeper understanding of various debt products and strengthen overall financial acumen
  • Prepare internal and external reports and presentation materials in relation to Baird, the GIB group, DA, lending relationships, corporate relationships and/or private equity relationships.
  • Support DA new business generation by helping the groups’ senior banker(s):
    • Identify potential DE transaction opportunities by monitoring GIB’s coverage universe and evaluating prevailing debt structures
    • Track and monitor GIB’s interactions with potential clients and lenders
  • Receive, initiate and/or follow-up on client and lender communications. Be comfortable in supporting the development of relationships with investment professionals at lending institutions, private equity firms and corporate clients
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a high volume of short-term requests with composure. Workstream prioritization is important. Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including some weekends on occasion, is required.
  • Monitor investment banking and debt capital markets industry publications for developments involving lenders, debt capital market trends and target clients. Proactively update the DA team with relevant developments
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What we look for:

  • Bachelor’s degree that includes at least one Accounting class is required.  2-3 years of previous experience in a financial services or professional services organization is preferred. Exposure to debt capital markets and/or leveraged lending is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, a proactive “self-starter” approach, a demonstrated record of excellence and have the ability to function equally well in both a team setting and on a self-directed basis.
  • Must be able to work with internal and external clients, including directly reporting to and communicating with senior banker(s) in other Baird offices on a daily basis via email and telephone.
  • Must be detail-oriented and recognize errors in numbers, spelling, grammar and punctuation; must demonstrate good follow-through skills.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint is required.  Must also be very skilled in the use of various internet information data providers and have demonstrated an ability to undertake research projects.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and communication skills required.
  • SIE and Series 79 licensed within one year of employment.
