As part of Baird’s Equity Capital Markets business unit, our Global Investment Banking team serves middle-market companies and private equity firms throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia in their M&A and equity financing needs, including managing IPOs, follow-on offerings and private placements.

If you’re a recent college graduate with a passion for excellence and the ability to excel in both a team setting and on your own, you might be a candidate for a position as a Baird Investment Banking analyst. 

As an analyst, you’ll provide analytical support on mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and other financial advisory services for a sector team with broad coverage responsibilities for an array of industry sub-sectors. Baird’s middle-market focus and small deal team size will give you the opportunity to hone your skills with senior bankers and management from client companies on a daily basis.

The Investment Banking Analyst program begins with three weeks of extensive training in our Milwaukee office and continues with ongoing training through a formalized mentor and senior bankers on your deal team.

With the help of these professionals and through daily dynamic project work, you’ll gain experience and play an integral part on your deal team, assuming a broad range of responsibilities including: 

  • Developing company valuations and financial models
  • Creating transaction marketing materials, including roadshow presentations and pitch books
  • Conducting industry and company research and analysis
  • Gaining varied industry and transaction expertise, as well as staying current on industry developments
  • Developing an understanding of the underlying trends that affect the equity capital markets
  • Gaining an understanding of the interests and investment criteria of a number of middle-market private equity firms

Candidates for the program will have: 

  • A bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • A working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing programs

Candidates in our European program must also have a minimum degree classification of 2:1 and eligibility to work in the U.K. or European Union.

Investment Banking Associate icon: toggle

Baird’s Investment Banking Associates are integral to providing quantitative and analytical support for equity offerings, mergers, acquisitions and other financial advisory services. As an Investment Banking Associate, you’ll work closely with senior bankers during all stages of transactions so that you can develop both the execution and client skills required to be an effective senior banker.

The program begins with an intensive three-week training program in our Milwaukee offices. It is designed to acquaint new associates with the basic analytical tools required in the execution of transactions. After training, associates are immediately assigned to client teams, where they begin working under the direction of senior bankers.

Associates are assigned to a variety of projects and are given a broad range of responsibilities, including:

  • Managing and assisting in the preparation of financial models and business valuations 
  • Creating client marketing presentations and other materials
  • Conducting industry and company-specific due diligence related to transactions 
  • Assisting in the preparation of fairness opinions 
  • Developing an understanding of the underlying trends that affect equity capital markets 
  • Gaining an understanding of the interests and investment criteria of a number of middle-market private equity firms

After three to four years, you’ll have core responsibility for executing transactions within a focus area.
